Street Peddler



Weclome the Peddler Week here at OPOD. We will be looking at the lost art of selling wares on the street. In the picture above, a man is selling potted flowers on a busy street in New York City. The picture was taken in 1904.

I can remember when we would go to Mexico in the 1960's and 1970's, the tradition of street peddling was still very strong. Vendors sold all types of stuff standing on the street. One might sell candies and food items, and another leather goods he had made. As I visit Africa, I see this tradition of selling things on the street is still alive and well.
